What To Know about This Year's SoCal Art Fair Season

Plus, how to join us for small group or private art fair tours.

A large part of our practice as art advisors is going to art fairs to discover new artists and galleries, keep a pulse on art market activity, pricing and quality, and build relationships with galleries from around the world.  Throughout February and March, our first focus for this type of diligence is on Southern California, where a range of fairs and associated art market activities are happening.

This is also the hub of our newest office, Mason Lane West Coast. As such, we’re thrilled to offer tailored personal and group tours to the fairs (email Cristin Wills to learn more), as well as a rundown on what’s happening:

Intersect Palm Springs

Intersect Palm Springs (Feb. 8-11)—Downtown Convention Center

Featuring around 30+ exhibitors of postwar and contemporary art, Intersect Art Fair is a key part of Modernism Week. Plus, the city of Palm Springs can’t be beat - it’s an easy, beautiful and worthwhile trip from LA.

LA Art Show (Feb. 14-18)—Downtown Convention Center

This is another large collection (100+) of both local and international exhibitors with a range of art from historic to contemporary. With an expected attendance of 60,000 people, the fair is broken down into manageable sections to navigate, such as women-owned galleries.

Frieze Los Angeles

Frieze LA (Feb. 28-March 3)—Santa Monica

Most like Art Basel with its draw of influencers and celebrities, Frieze really packs a lot into one airport location with nearly 100 international exhibitors, including many big-name galleries. We’re also excited by the “Focus” section of this event which will feature emerging galleries such as LA’s Shulamit Nazarian and Matthew Brown.

The Felix Art Fair at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

The Felix Art Fair (Feb. 29-March 3)—Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

This art fair venue is a draw in itself as it entirely takes over the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.  Explore the gorgeous architecture of this historic hotel as two floors and the poolside cabana rooms are transformed into gallery exhibition spaces. It’ll feature a mix of over 60 international exhibitors as well as local LA favorites like Parrasch Heijnen and Charlie James.

We welcome inquiries about and recommendations for any of the events above. For those interested in a tailored experience, contact us to schedule a private or small group tour. Each tour is customized to ensure you see art that aligns with your goals, gain an understanding of the scene, and come out feeling informed and inspired.  Contact Cristin Wills for details.
